Hi ! Dear Students !

Let’s talk about building your Vocabulary.

Words are the instruments by which men and women grasp the thoughts of others and with which they do much of their own thinking. They are the tools of thought, ” so said the writer John D’ Connor.

Every Language Teacher knows the importance of good Vocabulary. A good Vocabulary gives greater enjoyment of the language and more effective communication. There is no doubt that ‘The reader is the leader’.

Folks with low Vocabulary levels don’t enjoy reading. When one doesn’t understand many of the words, reading becomes more of a task than a pleasure. If this applies to you, try reading easier matter, to begin with. It is important that you find things that you would enjoy reading, and to read as often and as much as you can, because there are no short-cuts to improving your Vocabulary.

Next, use a Dictionary regularly. The Dictionary should be the most well-thumbed book in your home library. The Dictionary should be large enough and advanced enough to provide extensive definitions, word origins, notes on usage and examples.

In addition, keep a Thesaurus handy, for homonyms, synonyms, antonyms and more.

And finally, use the Internet which provides innumerable sites on the Web for the Vocabulary enthusiast.

You couldn’t find a better way to spend your time!
